Peg solitaire (or Solo Noble) is a board game for one player involving movement of pegs on a board with holes. Some sets use marbles in a board with indentations. The game is known simply as Solitaire in the United
Kingdom where the card games are called Patience. It is also referred to as Brainvita in India.
Peg solitaire has been played for over 300 years and is also known by other names, such as Hi-Q and Marble Solitaire. Peg solitaire is a challenging game with numerous variations that keep even seasoned puzzlers interested. The rules are simple enough for kids.
The goal is to have just one peg left on the board! The game is called solitaire because of the only player.
A peg can only move by jumping over an adjacent peg. The peg being jumped over will disappear. A valid move is to jump a peg orthogonally over an adjacent peg into a hole two positions away and then to remove the jumped peg. Delete as many pegs as you can, you delete a peg when you jump over it with another peg. Thus valid moves in each of the four orthogonal directions are:
* Jump to right;
* Jump to left;
* Jump up;
* Jump down.
Peg Solitaire is a family fun, easy to learn and a pleasure to play, even for younger kids.
This one-person strategy game really makes you concentrate. A good strategy is to take your time, and visualize a few moves ahead. There is no clock pressure, so carefully plan out your jumping moves in advance.
